1. Position hearth centered on the firebox (If a new hearth
is being installed). Level hearth, epoxy in place.
2. Center the Mantel over the firebox. Trace the outline
of the Mantel perimeter and interior edge onto the wall. You will use
these outlines as a guide for mounting the wall brackets. (See Drawing
A) Install surround trim strips, cut as required using diamond blade
tools. Wet saw cutting will control dust where necessary. Use Latapoxy
310 or equivalent for mounting the Surround trim strips.
3. Mounting the Top Bracket: Center the top Bracket 7/8"down
from the
top perimeter traced line of the mantel. Fasten the top Bracket to the
wall leaving space behind the Bracket to accept the metal cleat attached
inside the Mantel. (See Drawing B and C)
4. Mounting the Bottom Brackets: Using the traced outline
of the Mantel as
your guide, measure 7/8" in from each side of the Mantels outside
edge and 9" up from the finished floor or hearth surface. This
is the location of the outer corner of the bottom bracket. Fasten the
bottom bracket to the wall, leaving space behind the brackets to accept
the metal cleat attached inside the Mantel. (See Drawing C)
5. Mantel Placement: Center the Mantel over the fireplace
using the wall tracing as your guide. Lift and lower the Mantel so that
the metal cleats fit behind the top and bottom brackets. Remove the
Mantel if necessary to tighten or loosen the wall brackets as needed
for adjusting the Mantel to the wall.
6. Run a bead of painters calk around the outer edge of
the Mantel/ Wall joint, to finish and seal smoothly.
7. Paint and finish wall as required.
